This summer was a little different for me. For the first time in a while, I worked summer shifts as a lifeguard alongside my own work. My duties included children’s summer swim schools and water exercise classes. A lot happened during these months, and I wanted to share a small update here as well.

Swim groups and meaningful encounters

In June, I taught children’s swim lessons and welcomed back an adult client who wanted to strengthen skills they had already learned. It was wonderful to continue developing their swimming and to see how small, precise tips can lead to big insights.

I enjoy teaching all age groups, but working with adults is still where my heart is. Adult swimming lessons can be more challenging because there are memories, experiences, and sometimes uncertainties in the background. Adults often want to understand why a movement works a certain way. With children, learning happens through play and experimentation.

Celebrations and underwater moments

June also included a wedding, underwater photography sessions and midsummer festivities. Working as a lifeguard brought many different encounters and I enjoyed teaching water exercise classes. It made me consider developing my skills further in that area. Participants seemed to enjoy the classes and many asked if they would continue in autumn.

Different clients and different goals

Throughout the summer, I worked with clients from many backgrounds and with many motivations. One trained for a future profession. Another aimed to meet swimming skill requirements. Someone wanted to feel more relaxed in the water, and another hoped to overcome uncertainty.

This is the beauty of private swimming lessons. We can focus entirely on the individual and progress at their pace. Targeted exercises, calm progression and a safe atmosphere make a big difference.

Breakthroughs of the summer

There were many small and big successes.

  • Uncertainty shifted into swimming 25 metres several times
  • Fear of putting your face under water turned breathing and diving into the water.
  • found personal swimming styles and confidence
  • insights that moved skills forward

Every step felt important. It is wonderful to witness moments where someone realises they can be calm, safe, and even enjoy being in the water.

Thank you to my summer clients

I warmly thank all my summer clients for your trust and for choosing to develop your swimming skills. A special thank you to the customers at Linnanmaa swimming hall for your kind feedback on the water exercise classes. I am happy to teach more of them.

I hope private lessons will continue in autumn as well. Working with someone for several weeks allows us to progress calmly and build skills steadily. And also get to know each other.

New beginnings in Liminka

Elokuussa käynnistelen pilotointia pienryhmäopetuksesta Limingassa Lakeuden Lähteellä. Toivon, että pienryhmät saavat tuulta alleen ja löydän ryhmät, joissa voin opettaa aikuisia heidän omista lähtökohdistaan käsin.

City of Oulu swim schools are nice, but the groups are large. In small groups, I can give more time to each participant and shape the course according to their skills. The peaceful environment at Lakeuden Lähde is especially suitable for adults who want gentle, safe and individual guidance.

Let’s see if enough participants join one or several groups. It would be wonderful to offer a place in Liminka where adults can learn to swim calmly, safely, and at their own pace.

Welcome to join

If this summer sparked a wish to improve your swimming skills, feel more at ease in the water or gently let go of uncertainty, you are warmly welcome to join the upcoming small group sessions at Lakeuden Lähde in Liminka. These groups are designed especially for adults who appreciate a calm pace, individual guidance and a safe environment. You can join with clear goals or simply with curiosity. What matters most is that you get to be in the water as yourself.

Registration will open soon and if you want to secure your spot, feel free to send me a message already. I look forward to starting this journey together.
